Street, Vert, Bowl & Freestyle (Popular)

Bowl Skateboarding

Bowl skateboarding involves riding in a smooth, curved structure resembling an empty swimming pool. This style emphasizes fluid movement and aerial tricks. Key features include:

  • Transitions: Smooth, flowing transitions between walls and the bottom of the bowl.
  • Aerial Tricks: High-flying maneuvers such as airs, grinds, and slides.
  • Flow and Speed: Maintaining momentum and speed to navigate the bowl seamlessly.

Freestyle Skateboarding

Freestyle skateboarding is the original form of skateboarding, focusing on technical flat-ground tricks. It’s characterized by:

  • Creative Tricks: Complex maneuvers like flips, spins, and footwork.
  • Choreography: Often performed to music, blending artistry with technical skill.
  • Individual Expression: Emphasizes personal style and creativity over speed and height.

Skateboarding in the Olympics

Skateboarding made its Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games, featuring two main disciplines:

  • Street: Simulates a street environment with stairs, rails, and ledges. Skaters perform tricks on various obstacles.
  • Park: Takes place in a bowl-like park with steep drops and curves. Skaters focus on aerial tricks and flow.
